As a Referral Specialist, you act as a member advocate within the provider office by ensuring procedures, benefits, and policies are administered correctly and timely.  You also pre-authorize surgeries and procedures with medical insurance companies. You are the voice for the people.

To act as a member advocate within the provider office by ensuring procedures, benefits, and policies are administered correctly and timely.  To pre-authorize surgeries and procedures with medical insurance companies.

Typical Requirements: 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two years experience in a medical facility.
  3. Basic understanding of insurance policies and procedures.
  4. Effective customer service skills and a positive attitude.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  7. Excellent organizational skills.
  8. Ability to pay close attention to details.
  9. Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff members.
  10. Ability to use a computer. Proficient keyboarding skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. Two years of experience working with referrals and managed care products
  2. Thorough understanding of the referral process and HMO philosophy.
  3. Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT coding.

Pay Ranges

Base Hourly: $19 per hour
Annual: $38000 – $57000

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent
Est. Experience Required: 2 years
